Data-driven websites are essential for every modern company to inform its community, sell products, collaborate with partners and support customers. Examples of such websites are online stores, content management systems, forums and helpdesk systems.
Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) are dynamic and interactive applications that run in the browser. They break away from the page-based architecture, run mostly on the client and only connect to the server when it's necessary to exchange data with it. Thus they are more responsive and use less bandwidth than standard web applications.
RIAs absed on Adobe's Flash and Flex technologies also offer user interfaces that are nice, dynamic and interactive.
